“What’s in a name?” – Etymology Research Assignment
Goal: To research the etymology of either your own name or several
names of popular culture characters from books, movies, or television
shows.
Procedure:
1. Since you have already used it, why not try Prezi again? You may
also use PPT, Word, or make a hand drawing.
2. Research what you can of the name. You may have to break it apart
and analyze the roots, prefixes, and suffixes. (ie. Voldemort can be
broken down to the French de mort = of death +vol de l’aige (flight
of the eagle) Hence, the name can mean “flight of death.” Thanks

3. Write what you found in the etymology and theorize why the
writer(s) may have chosen this name.
4. Explain how/why not you think this name fits into the context of
your character’s story.
