Infant/Toddler Child Care Program
Participant Information
We are pleased to have you participate and observe in our facility. We hope that you will enjoy your time
with us, and make the most of this learning opportunity.
The infant-toddler program is located at Maehling Terrace Family Student Housing, in Unit I, at 3rd and
Farrington Streets. The infants are in apt. 108, and the Toddlers are in 109. We offer full day care for
children who are at least between 6 weeks and 24 months old. We are open from 7:15 - 5:15 and serve the
children of students, faculty, and staff and community families. Daily activities are planned to enhance
each child=s development.
All students must have a proof of an up to date negative TB test, as well as a criminal history check on file
in our office before beginning participation.
Coats may be hung in the closet in the main play area. If possible leave purses and books in your car.
We realize that working with infants and toddlers may be a new experience for you. Please let us know if
you have not fed, diapered, or held a baby before; we will help you feel comfortable with this new
experience.
As you observe and participate with our infants and toddlers there are a few rules of health and hygiene
that you need to follow. Babies cannot control their sneezes, coughs, and runny noses; but we can help by
not passing on infections through following a few simple rules: 1. Make sure you are personally clean by
bathing often, keeping hair well-groomed, and following good dental hygiene. 2. Wear clean, preferable
washable clothing. If a baby spits up or becomes ill while you are caring for a child wash your hands.
Use the bathroom to do this. 3. Remove your outside shoes, especially in bad weather. Leave any wet
shoes or umbrellas in the outside hall.
Parents have every right to expect the highest standards of health and cleanliness from all who come into
contact with their children. This not only helps to keep our babies healthy, but you as well.
Attendance forms are in the I/T rooms. Sign in each time you come and have a staff member initial. As
your participation is recorded and evaluated by your instructor for your final grade, only hours that have
been initialed on the day of participation will be considered.
Please be on time. NOTIFY US IF YOU MUST BE ABSENT and be dependable about meeting all your
participation hours. Make up hours are scheduled during the week of finals. Phone #=s to call 237-6312
(Infants) , or 237-5159 (Toddlers).
If you would like a conference we can arrange a time. It is sometimes difficult to answer questions during
the hours children are here, but please let us know if you would like to.
You are here to learn about infants and toddlers. You will be observing and involved in various activities
with the children. Please do not spend the time conversing with other participants.
