Instructions: Attend the NSC Art Gallery Exhibit “Extra-Curricular,” and compose sentences
about the art as follows. Details about the exhibit and gallery hours are on the other side of this
sheet.
1. In a simple sentence with a “there” expletive, give an overall explanation of what the exhibit
contains. Underline the expletive and the subject and verb of the sentence. (You might have to
double-check what is meant grammatically by a “simple” sentence.)
2. Using a compound sentence joined by a coordinating conjunction, compare or contrast two
of the pieces in the show. You may add any modifiers you want: adjectives, adverbs,
prepositional phrases. Label the subject and verb of each clause, and circle the coordinating
conjunction. Punctuate correctly between the clauses.
3. In a sentence containing an appositive adjective, describe one of the pieces of art. Underline
the appositive adjective.
4. Compose a compound sentence that tells about your response to the show. What did you
think of it? Give one of the clauses a compound subject, and give the other clause a compound
verb. Underline the subject(s) and verb(s) of each clause, and circle whatever connects the
clauses (coordinating conjunction, semi-colon, or conjunctive adverb).
