With growing settlement of Latinos from Mexico and Central America in the new destination
regions of the South and Midwest, rural and urban areas have witnessed the growth of Latinoowned and –operated businesses that serve a variety of the needs of new and old immigrants from
Latin America and, to varying degrees, engage native U.S-born customers. Many of these
businesses have revitalized strip malls and the down town regions of small and medium-sized
towns throughout North Carolina, Georgia, Iowa, Minnesota and elsewhere. In this talk, Griffith
will focus on how Latino entrepreneurs provide quality goods and services and create trusting
relationships with their customers as they expand a cultural context that enables Latino settlement
in new destination regions.
