1. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Agenda was approved.
2. OLD BUSINESS
A. EATV REPORT
Arthur Pine presented a report on EaTV’s expanding programming. Several new
series are providing very current, educational content with no commercials. The
current Spanish language series entitled, Destinos, allows viewers the chance to learn
Spanish while watching a dramatized telenovela. Destinos is on twice a day Monday
through Friday. It has received good feedback. Habitable Planet explores the effect
of human activities on the earth's environment. Topics include population growth and
climate change. The pre-eminent annual international AIDS Treatment Conference
was aired live from Montreal, Canada on Feb. 11, 2009. Three new series will be
previewed this summer and aired in the fall: 1) Mathematics Illuminated; 2)
Economics USA; 3) Power of Place: Geography for the 21st Century. Other series
being previewed for fall include two cultural heritage series on Hispanic American
and African American contributions to the United States. Additionally, the channel is
looking into streaming video; however, streaming raises the issue of additional costs
associated with online rights.
Of significant importance is a new law that will cut funding for public access
channels and change existing law restricting money from being used for operational
costs. A resolution has been drafted to challenge the new law. The resolution
addresses how money is received by the channels and what the money can be used
for. CCSF is in support of the resolution. In fact, Francine Podenski has input
language into the resolution identifying City College and SFUSD specifically. The
resolution will be presented to the College Advisory Council.
B. INTEGRATED DISTRICT MARKETING PLAN
A workgroup, comprised of 18 members includes Associated Vice Chancellor Joanne
Low, Associate Dean Lori, Scolari, and Dean Martha Lucey, has been identified; and
recommendations for the comprehensive marketing plan have been developed. The
recommendation includes statistics provided by the Research and Planning Office.
Next, the workgroup will meet with marketing professor, Marilyn Goodman.
Martha Lucey stressed the importance of branding the college and the need for a
CCSF logo. Earthbound Media Group (EMG) is a likely candidate for developing the
logo since the company is designing the new college website and has worked with the
college community for two years. EMG has already conducted research on the
college as a whole that would be useful for logo design. The discussion of branding
brought up questions regarding the trademark issue and what processes and policies
exist for acceptable use of logos, seals and trademarked items. The committee
recommends reviewing the issue of CCSF trademarks and would like to invite Mark
Robinson, Dean of Associated Students and a representative of Strategic Marketing
Affiliates, the company overseeing the CCSF Trademark Program to a future
meeting.
