purpose:
People credited with this unit standard are able to hire out
chains for vehicles, and manage stock and equipment for
hiring chains.
This unit standard may be of interest to people working for,
or on contract to, a snowsport area.

Evaluation of documentation by NZQA and industry.
moderation option:
A centrally established and directed national moderation
system has been set up by Sport, Fitness and Recreation
Industry Training Organisation.
special notes:

Competence in this unit standard may be demonstrated
and assessed against in conjunction with Unit 18138,
Fit and remove vehicle chains; Unit 57, Provide
customer service in given situations; and/or Unit 378,
Provide customer service for international visitors;
and/or Unit 58, Complete a sales transaction in a given
situation.

All activities must comply with the policies, procedures,
and requirements of the enterprises involved and any
relevant environmental, legislative and/or regulatory
requirements which include but are not limited to the
Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 (HSE),
Injury Prevention, Rehabilitation, and Compensation
Act 2001, and their subsequent amendments and
associated regulations.

Hire out chains for vehicles.
performance criteria
1.1
Correct tyre chain sizes are selected to match tyre manufacturer's
specifications, HSE regulations for workplace safety, and enterprise
procedures.
Range:
1.2
may include – two and four-wheel drive private and/or rental cars,
single and dual wheel vehicles, campervans;
evidence is required of three different types of vehicle.
Interactions with customers and potential customers are conducted in a positive
and courteous manner.
Range:
interactions may include – advice on driving with chains, fitting and
removal procedures, price.
1.3
Chain hiring records are maintained in accordance with enterprise procedures.
1.4
Money transactions and documentation are completed accurately, and in
accordance with enterprise procedures.
Range:
cash and receipts are balanced on completion of service and
sales.

Chains requiring maintenance or repair are identified.

Chains are stored, and transported to and from the fitting site in accordance

Tools for fitting, maintaining, and repairing chains are stored and maintained in
accordance with manufacturers’ recommendations and enterprise procedures.
