Email from Matt the Farmers’
Market manager to the students

First, let me say I enjoyed meeting with the
Team yesterday. I found your questions and
ideas well thought out and very
relevant. Clearly you did your homework and
did your research into the history of the
market, it’s current status and suggestions on
how to improve our presence beyond the
immediate downtown area and into areas such
as the Point neighborhood.
Reactions to the Crosswalk
Project
As the students worked, they received
comments from people in the community
as they were driving by:



“These should be near every school!”
“Great work! Love the colors. Nice idea!”
“It’s about time they did something to
make this stand out.”
Implement the Plan

The students created presentations for the
last day outlining the steps they took
throughout the service learning projects.

We visited both the Salem and Lynn
farmers’ markets to compare them and get
a feel of what the farmers is like.
We contacted the head of the farmers
market via email and phone and talked
about are ideas.
We met the leaders/managers of the Salem
farmers Market, about different ways to
improve their advertisement.
We made t-shirts and flyers in Spanish and
English.
We plan on setting up a booth at Lafayette
park to spread the word about the the
farmers market and the importance of
organic food.
We will try to help bring/introduce the
farmers market to the Hispanic community
by passing out flyers and putting them in
mail boxes in and around the point area.
