1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division

The Coordinator, Outreach Technologies, aids in the planning, development, and implementation of
technologically innovative services for the Savitt Medical Library, including expansion of the virtual
library environment, support for mobile applications, creation of online tutorials for self-directed
learning, fostering of mechanisms to increase knowledge sharing, communication, and collaboration
within the University of Nevada School of Medicine (UNSOM) community. Working closely with library
faculty and staff, the position focuses on the discovery, assessment, and integration of new
approaches for the delivery of information resources and educational services. This position reports to
the Director of the Savitt Medical Library under the Dean of Libraries.

 Develop, configure, customize, and maintain the Savitt Medical Library’s CampusGuides
online content management system
 Create and ensure functionality of mobile-ready versions of the library website
 Identify, select, annotate, and organize subject content relevant to specific health related
disciplines
 Maintain statistics and generate website usage reports
 Assist in conducting website usability studies
20% - Web 2.0 Technologies Environment
 Investigate and develop new Web 2.0 technologies including wikis, blogs, and other
mechanisms to promote the exchange of user-developed content, facilitate knowledge
sharing, and foster communication and collaboration among the UNSOM community and
Nevada healthcare providers
20% - Mobile Computing Applications
 Promote integration of mobile computing into medical education and clinical practice
 Discover, review, and provide support for medical apps and mobile computing devices
 Create online forums to support the exchange of knowledge among UNSOM researchers and
healthcare providers to promote effective selection and use of mobile medical and productivity
apps
20% - Online Learning Environment
 Create online tutorials and self-directed learning modules to support the teaching of
information management skills for school of medicine students, residents, and faculty

Level of Freedom
The Coordinator, Outreach Technologies, works closely with the Director of Savitt Medical Library in
the development of content for websites, mobile apps, and other applicable technologies. This
position has latitude in the selection of appropriate technologies to deliver library content, instruction,
and services and in the design and presentation of information. The incumbent must work
independently, with initiative, and with oversight from the Director.
Impact
The work product of the Coordinator, Outreach Technologies is very visible to users – students,
faculty, and community -- of the Savitt Medical Library and its offsite services. Decisions and
performance have a direct impact on the student learning experience and indirectly on instruction.
Decisions impact the unit’s ability to provide quality programs and services, which in turn impact the
academic success of UNSOM.

 Website design and construction
 Web 2.0 technologies
 Various technologies, tools and software to aid in the development of content and delivery
