Brief summary of PI research / research group / centre activity (2 or 3 lines max):
If you are already involved in relevant scholarly activities relating to Brazil, please mention them here.
Development of multi-scale experimental and computational (finite element) methods for nonlinear solid mechanics, with application to failure prediction (fatigue, thermo-mechanical fatigue,
wear, creep, fracture), manufacturing processes, novel product design and functionality,
sustainability and mechanical efficiency.
Title & brief description of PhD project (suitable for publication on web):
Superplastic forming of Al 5083 for automotive industry
This project will involve the development of high temperature experimental testing capability for
superplastic forming of Al5083, in collaboration with AutoLaunch Ltd, Carlow, Ireland. The project
will also involve the development of non-linear computational models for superplastic forming of
complex componets, with particular emphasis on failure prediction during the forming process.
