November 18th, 2014
Criteria: Student must meet all to apply.
1. Placements are for FULL DAY Co-op Students only.
2. Students must be 17 years of age at the start of the placement.
3. Dual Credit students are limited to one day per week for college course.
4. All positions except for Fleet are Clerical. No ride-outs.
5. “Personal History Form (Non-Employee- Modified)” is a Criminal Record Check in which the Peel
Regional Police will complete their own search. All components must be completed that are
applicable to the student including disclosing all information.
6. The application package must be completed to be selected for an interview. This includes:
a. All requested information has been included and the co-op teacher has signed off on this.
b. A recent photograph of the applicant.
c. A photocopy of the applicant’s birth certificate.
d. A cover letter which specifically notes the position applying to with details as to why the
candidate would be suited in policing. (with the exception of Fleet).
7. Students must demonstrate good decorum and common sense.
8. Preference will be given to students who have not attained their 30 credits prior to the start of the
semester.
Student Interviews – If the candidate is selected and scheduled for an interview they must adhere
to the following:
1.
Students will be interviewed in December and will be asked to introduce themselves and explain
why they have applied. All students must attend an ORIENTATION SESSION which will be held on
February 23rd, 2015 before the start of the placement.
2.
Students are encouraged to dress appropriately in business attire, to display visible respect for the
interviewer replying with “no sir, yes sir” answers and to be prepared to discuss realistic expectations
for their placement.
3.
Students must respond honestly to this question: “Have you ever had a negative experience with
the police?” Students must be able to pass the criminal check.

PEEL REGIONAL POLICE
POSITION DESCRIPTIONS FOR CO-OP STUDENTS
Fitness/Training Unit
 perform daily maintenance and care of the equipment within the Multi-Purpose Room and Weight
Training Room at 180 Derry Road
 assist with the collection and compilation of program related statistics for both the use of facilities and
specific programs or events
 assist in the design, promotion, and implementation of an event or program as scheduled within the
fitness program
 to assist the Fitness Coordinator with the physical fitness testing of applicants. As part of this duty, the
scoring of the tests upon completion will also be done
 participate in the physical activities of the Fitness Program and in certain circumstances, to develop
and lead the activities under the guidance of the Fitness Coordinator
 assist in all aspects of the Fitness and Life Style program as directed by the Fitness Coordinator
 perform general office duties and do follow-up telephone and correspondence
 maintain an open communication with the Coordinator in all matters pertaining to the job
 enjoy the experience of working in and observing, the operation of a large government agency
Children's Safety Village
 will work with the safety village officers in classes which are conducted daily
 must enjoy working with young children
 it is preferable if the student has his/her own means of transportation to and from the Safety Village as
public transit is not readily accessible – they are located half way between Steeles and Derry Road on



Records Department - The student will

have a variety of clerical duties assigned

assist in filing peace bonds and reporting cards into criminal packages

use Peel Regional Police computers to look up report numbers to assist in filing documents

Fleet Services - It is mandatory for the student to be enrolled in an automotive program at school





Assisting Technicians in their general duties
Tire maintenance
Cleaning vehicles, stripping vehicles
Parts inventory (Stocking shelves)
Perform housekeeping duties
Information Technology Services (ITS) – Telecommunications Systems and Services (TSS)
 Could perform duties in either of the sub-units within the department: TSS – Systems and Support or
TSS – Voice Infrastructure Services
 Would be under direct guidance in all their undertakings
 Would observe and assist the installation technicians in the set up and decommissioning of vehicles
 would observe and assist the repair technicians with simple repairs
 would observe and assist with the refurbishing//repairing of harnesses and equipment as necessary
 would observe and assist with simple bench type electrical / electronic repairs
 would observe and assist in the parts area with inventory counting and parts control
 would observe and assist the Voice Systems group with telephone adds/moves and changes
 would observe and assist the Voice Systems group with the VOIP deployment to the organization
 Preference will be given to a student who utilizes a lot of hands-on-skills such as those in an
electro/mechanical technician, automotive or robotics type program; or a student focusing their
studies in Telecommunications or automotive electronic equipment installation.
 Proficiency in the use of common hand and power tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, cutters,
crimpers, ratchets and sockets, electric drills)
 Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access
