Co-op Placements in PLASP Before and After School Programs
For School Age and Kindergarten Age Children
Placement Type:
Working with staff and interacting with children (from 4
years to 12 years of age)
Co-op students will work alongside PLASP staff to promote
children’s learning, growth and development through play.
Placement Location:
PLASP programs, located on-site in select elementary
schools throughout Peel:
- before school (7:30am - school start)
- lunch (optional)
- and/or after school programs (school dismissal - 6pm)
Best Suited To:
1) Co-op students completing 1, 2 or 3 co-op credits
2) Co-op students completing 4 co-op credits, who require
additional hours in a PLASP program

Students must:










Be enrolled in secondary school and participating in the co-op program
Complete PLASP’s Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check
Complete PLASP’s medical form
Participate in a PLASP Orientation and Workshop
Complete an interview with PLASP
Be responsible for his/her own transportation to and from the placement
Be available Monday to Friday
Be at the placement 10 minutes before the start time and stay until the end of the program
Have excellent organizational and communication skills
Become part of the staff team and develop a good relationship with the program staff
Students must also:










Be interested in working with children, and like and respect children
Work alongside staff to assist the children in PLASP Before School and After School Programs for
either school age children (4-12 years) or Kindergarten age (4 and 5 years)
Talk with and listen to the children
Play indoor and outdoor games with the children
Help the program staff plan, execute and participate in activities and special events that are fun for
the children
Help the program staff with setup and cleanup, e.g., snack time, craft activities, etc.
Help to keep the program safe for everyone
Bring ideas for crafts and games to the program staff
Develop leadership and initiative skills
Perform other duties as requested by the program staff
