- Discuss and explore career opportunities within the BMA Cluster
- Identify the 6 pathways within the Business Management &
Administration Cluster (BMAC)

- Introduction Presentation (computer, projector, screen, etc.)
- Vocabulary List
- Wall Dominoes Student Handout
- Wall Dominoes Presentation
Introduction/Engage
- Initiate a class discussion by asking each student to give one example
of a career in the BMA cluster without repeating another student’s
response
Activities
- Lecture: Introduction Presentation
- Discuss upcoming career module experiences and expectations
- Assignment: Wall Dominoes Game
- Review and distribute BMAC Career Module Vocabulary List
Lesson Closure
- Review the 6 BMAC Pathways using questioning techniques
- Review and collect Wall Dominoes Activity
- Distribute Customer Service activity for Day 2 and instruct students to
prepare for the following lesson
- Homework: Instruct students to begin searching for vocabulary list

VOCABULARY LIST DEFINITIONS
1. Career – a goal for work that is fulfilled through an occupation or series of occupations
2. Job - An activity through which an individual can earn money; a regular activity in exchange of
payment
3. Values – things that are important to you
4. Ethics – principles of morality or rules of conduct
5. Skills - the things you learn that enable you to perform certain tasks
6. Talents – a natural, inborn aptitude to do certain things
7. Ability – the quality of being able to perform a mental or physical task
8. Interests -- activities that give you satisfaction and that can provide a basis for your employment
goals and possible career paths
9. Influence – power enabling a person to affect the actions of others
10. Application -- a document used by employers that asks for information related to employment; gives
the employer standard information about each job applicant
11. Resume -- a tool that provides information about you to a potential employer
12. Cover letter -- a letter expressing your interest in a specific job
13. Interview -- a meeting of people, face to face, especially for consultation
14. Workforce -- all of the people, 16 years or older, who are employed or who are looking for a job
15. Compensation -- the amount of money paid to an employee for work performed, including salary
wages
16. Salary -- direct payment of money to an employee for work completed
17. Benefits -- compensation in forms other that direct payment
18. Promotion -- any form of communication used to inform, persuade, or remind; communicating
information about products and services to potential customers; the advancement of an employee to
a position with greater responsibility
19. Termination -- the end of an employment relationship between a company and an employee
20. Diversity -- the comprehensive inclusion of people with differences in personal characteristics and
attributes.
21. Consumer -- a person who buys and uses goods and services
22. Customer Service -- the assistance and advice provided by a company to those people who buy or
use its products or services
23. Organizing -- the function of a manager involving identifying and arranging the work and resources
needed to achieve the goals that have been set
24. Management -- the process of accomplishing the goals of an organization through the effective use
of people and other resources
25. Planning -- the function of a manager involving analyzing information, setting goals, and making
decisions about what needs to be done

26. Staffing -- the function of a manager including all of the activities involving in obtaining, preparing,
and compensating the employees of a business
27. Implementing – manager’s effort to direct and lead people to accomplish the planned work of the
organization.
28. Controlling -- determines to what extent the business is accomplishing the goals it set out to reach in
the planning stage
29. Management Style -- the way a manager treats and involves employees
30. Leadership -- the ability to motivate individuals and groups to accomplish important goals
31. Human relationships -- the way people get along with each other
32. Ethical business practices -- practices that ensure that appropriate standards of conduct are
observed in a company’s relationships with everyone who is a part of the business or affected by the
business’ activities
