PROGRAM ASSISTANT

**This position will be located in Elizabeth City, NC**
The primary purpose of the position is to function as a Support Staff for the EAHEC Sub-Center located in
Elizabeth City, NC. This position will be supervised by the Director of the Sub-Center who is directly
responsible for overall work assignments; however, the individual in this position will also support the Student
Services Coordinator and any other EAHEC faculty based at the Sub-Center. Primary duties include daily office
coverage and program management activities for educational programs, including logistics, health professional
credit awards, correspondence, and liaison with Greenville office of Eastern AHEC. Other duties include
working collaboratively with the Director to organize Partnering Coalition meetings, including correspondence
and meeting minutes.
Excellent customer service skills are required. Time management skills, problem-solving skills, organizational
skills and the ability to work in a self-directed and independent manner are essential. Proficiency in wordprocessing and database computer applications required (Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint and
Excel). Excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary for frequent contact with health care
professionals, institutional and community leaders, and students.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform
the work.
Preferred Education and
Experience
Graduation from a four-year college or university or two or more years of progressively complex and
responsible administrative/office management experience. Demonstrate possession of knowledge, skills and
abilities gained through at least two years of office assistant/secretarial experience; or an equivalent
combination of training and experience.
Should be well organized, self-directed, and independent; have the ability to interact with staff, faculty and the
public. Should be able to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously and set priorities so that deadlines are
met. Experience in health care or education setting, planning, development and implementation of continuing
education conference and workshops, as well as knowledge of medical terminology. Significant interpersonal
skills, customer-service orientation, attention to detail, flexibility and adaptability.
Excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated effectiveness working as part of a team; should
be computer literate in programs such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and database computer systems.
Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information appropriately is essential.

Administration Plan. If candidates are not identified at the Advanced level, management may consider
candidates at a lower competency level. Pay will be commensurate with applicant's competencies as well as
budget, equity, and market considerations.
Salary Grade Equivalent: 61 (for reduction-in-force priority purposes only)
