UNIVERSAL SERVICE WIRELESS BROADBAND POLICY IN SERBIA

Abstract:
Universal service policy is a crucial part of telecommunication development
policy. Today, traditional approach to universal service/access is obsolete and
broadband services are more and more considered as a part of Universal service
definition. Strategy for telecommunications development in Serbia plans
broadband solutions as a part of US. The presentation deals with methodology
for implementation of wireless broadband solutions in rural areas. It shows the
research on settlements without telephones, their demands for
telecommunications, the type of US policy that should be implemented, the way
to involved 3G mobile operators in the broadband solutions for rural areas and
what other broadband wireless technologies can be competitive solutions. In the
presentation example of broadband wireless solution for specific rural area in
Serbia is discussed.
