Films on Demand Integration into Brightspace/D2L

Films on Demand is a database of videos (similar to Youtube) that may now be integrated into Brightspace for students’ viewing. Many of the videos are already captioned.

Films on Demand videos may be integrated via the

HTML editor in D2L. This HTML editor is apparent in several places in D2L, including the content, discussions, dropbox, and quiz area.

1. Within the content area (“Content” on the navbar) choose the module in which the video should be placed. Then choose “New” and “Create a File”.

This can also be done via the “Course Builder” by selecting the module to be included and choosing

“Create an HTML file” under “Add Content”.

3. After searching, one can select the clip by choosing

“embed”.

2. After creating the HTML file (giving it a name), one will select the “Insert Stuff” icon from the top menu bar (should be the first icon).

In the left panel, “Films on Demand” should be an option. One can then search by titles, segments, or transcripts for appropriate video clips to embed into their course.

4. Select “Always trust this URL” and select “next”.

The video will appear in the HTML file. One can type below the video to add in text or discussion questions. One may also add several videos into one HTML file.

When finished editing, choose “Publish”.

5. As students view the video, they may choose the “CC” icon in the lower right corner and choose “On”. This will allow the closed captions to appear on the screen within the film.

6. Videos can also be added to current content pieces, discussions, dropboxes, etc., by selecting “Edit HTML” or “Edit Discussion” etc and then using the

“Insert Stuff” icon to add in the videos.
