COLLEGE OF MEDICINE AND HEALTH SCIENCES
RESEARCH REPORT 2013
Postgraduate Studies:
The Assistant Dean of Postgraduate Studies and Research (ADPSR) office is responsible
for the coordination of postgraduate admission and registration processes with the
Deanship of Admission and Registration and the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies. The
ADPSR office together with the College Postgraduate Studies Committee (PGST) have
the responsibility of coording the running and reviewing of current postgraduate
programs, introducing new programs and facilitating the funding of postgraduate
students in COMHS.
The current MSc programs in the COMHS are two-years full time programs. Eight
departments have been granted the option of offering M.Sc degrees. Of these, five
departments in our college have started MSc Programs within the last three years.
The PhD programs are research-based programs aimed at developing research expertise
in different specializations and equipping students with relevant specialized skills.
Coursework is only prescribed if deficiencies are identified. In addition to the
participation and oral defense of the thesis, the programs also require presentation of
detailed research plan, at least two departmental seminars and acceptance of at least one
paper for publication in an international journal.
The following is the number of the MSc and PhD students in different departments:

Research:
The ADPSR Office is responsible for coordinating the funding processes pertaining to
research and consultancy in the COMHS in association with the Research and
Innovation Department of the Office of Deputy Vice Chancellor for Postgraduate
Studies & Research and the Deanship of Research. The Office, together with the
College Medical Research Committee, administers the funding processes of research
projects.
Published research is now recognized as the main aspect by which Universities are
ranked. The higher administration of SQU is fully aware of this fact, and important steps
have been taken, at different levels, to increase awareness among all the faculty and staff
of the university.
