Absent Gayle, Kate, Katherine
Submitted by Kim Kane
Announcements and Business (20 min)
 Welcome Jen Bowser!
o Jen will be the new SSN Events Planner
o Need to add this position to the bylaws and send the change to the
members to vote on
 Figure out how to poll our members (Katherine)
 Last general meeting
o Working groups were discussed
o Add sustainability tidbits (ie: neat website, movies etc.) in the email
that goes out with the agenda
 Sasha will ask Kate if she will compile tidbits and send to her
each month.
 SSN handouts for events
o Members liked the logo and Sasha will work with Gayle to see if the
designer of the logo can save it to a vector file
 As a token of our appreciation, give a $5.00 Starbuck’s Gift Card
to the two people who designed the logos
 Next meeting EB members will sign the card.
 Jen will make a thank-you card
 Print out the logo on a piece of letterhead and send to
the person who designed the logo we chose with their
gift card.
 What do we want to use for our brochures/handouts at events
and what kind of prizes? Sasha will ask Kate to investigate
options
 Try to limit the amount of paper we use and refer
people to the website.
 If we have give-aways use “green” gifts and play a game
to get people involved.
 Paper ideas made from flower seeds or 100% recycled
content paper
 Other gift ideas that we could have our website on:
Pens made from recycled content, refillable pens,
sporks
 Social Media
o Table until later
 Updates from other board members
o We still need a communications person to replace Kate -- encourage
others to volunteer. Sasha is willing to step down from her current
position to take the Communications’ position and then Mark would
step up to the chair position
o Sasha reported for Gayle that we have $989.00 in our budget.
 We need index number
o Kim reported for Kate that the Google maps function on the Calendar
on the SSN page is not working right, because there is not a campus
street address. Should we keep or remove? The group looked at it, and
it is now working so keep. Kate can remove the description that was
previous there.
o Kim will miss the next general meeting, can someone take minutes?
o Brian reported 19 paid members, 5 people who have pledged to
become members, 63 people have signed up for the list serv.
Working groups (10 min)
 At the general meeting it was decided that anyone can join the working
groups, members and non-members
 Empower people to get involved with one of the working groups
o Two or three members have already expressed interest in starting a
working group
 Best practices – work with existing staff in those areas to see where working
group members can be of most help
 At the next general meeting discuss working groups in more detail and get
input
What to do at next meeting? (10 min)
 Form working groups
 Mark: holiday sustainability tips
o Jen will work on gathering holiday sustainability tips to share at
General Meeting and then ask members if they have any to share. Kim
will send some wrapping tips that the Library’s Environmental Group
has links too.
SSN funding (10 min)
 What would our dream budget be? How much do we really need? Sasha will
work with Gayle to come up with an annual budget.
o Money for events
 Including a banner(s), publicity
o Money for staff projects
 We want people to dream big
 Could we ask VC Matthews for matching funds once we have
projects in place? Since it would nice to have the campus
backing as the projects are in the workplace
 Bring up at next General Meeting
 Jen will research an application form for staff projects. Jen will
send to Brian and Sasha for input.
o Money for giveaways to members/sporks/t-shirts
 Importance of purchasing sustainable gifts
Example: t-shirts made from hemp, recycled material, organic,
bamboo or some similar fabric.
o Would we need money to create a video for the webpage?
Corporate donors
o Can we find companies that walk the talk?
o Create a tiered system
o Start thinking about fund-raising projects (Mark)
Other
o Article about the SSN – Sasha will follow-up with Gayle and Kate.
