Word Wall Words
We started our weekly routine with our
word wall words this week. On my teacher
web page I have posted a list of the 22
words your child is expected to be able to
read and write by the end of kindergarten.
Each week we will work with 2 words to
practice reading them, writing them, using
them in sentences, searching for them in
books, etc. Our word wall words this week
were “a” and “I” and the kids did a great
job. Once we have covered words in class,
I will change them to red on the document
posted on my web page. At any point, your
child is expected to be able to read the
words in red. We work really hard with
these words because they occur frequently
in texts for emergent readers. Students
feel confident to try to decode unknown
words in a book if there are a couple of
words on each page that they recognize
immediately. Rest assured, if your child is
ready for more challenging words, he or
she will pick some more appropriate words
to be learning. All students started with
“a” and “I” this week in order to learn our
routines. Thank you for your support!

“Big Kid” Buddies!
This week the students met their “big kid”
buddies. Each student in the AM class is paired
up with a 2nd grader in Mrs. Hurto’s class. Each
child in the PM class is paired up with a 5th
grader in Miss Brunst’s class. Throughout the
year we will do lots of fun activities together:
crafts, reading, games, and more! Having a big
kid buddy is a wonderful experience for the
kindergartners. It allows them to form a
positive relationship with an older student and
helps them feel connected to Scottish Corners.
The second and fifth graders do a great job of
helping the kindergartners as we work together
on various activities. This week the kids met
their buddies and the students interviewed each
other to get to know one another. Afterwards,
the kindergarten students gave their buddies a
grand tour of our classroom and they chose a
book to read together. Big kids and
kindergartners all had a great time and they
can’t wait until our next meeting!
