Nonfiction Texts
This week, the SUNSHINES
were continue to look closely
at nonfiction texts. In reading
workshop, they collaborated in
groups of 3 to become experts
on a nonfiction book about
plants or healthy foods. By
reading closely, they worked
together to find five fun facts,
important words, and
diagrams about their topic.

The SUNSHINES worked as a whole class to
design and develop their very own SHAPE
TOWN! Using recycled boxes, they created a 3D
building. They used their imaginations and
creativity to add details to the town.

to create a poster to communicate information
about their topic. On their posters, they included
a title, a diagram, 5 fun facts, important words,
and other creative ways to display what they
learned in their BOOK CLUB books.
In reading groups, we reviewed identifying
nonfiction text features and finding evidence to
support our thinking.
* We continue to work on building reading stamina
and being immersed in all types of texts. In your
SUNSHINES reading bin at school, he/she has
books based on their interests, fiction, nonfiction,
poetry, magazines, and more!
Math

* The SUNSHINES participated in many
activities throughout the week that practiced
graphing skills. They were exposed to all
types of graphs including: bar graphs
(horizontal and vertical), line graphs, pie
graphs, pictographs, tally graphs, and more!
Writing
* *We used writing to communicate what we did
over SPRING BREAK. The SUNSHINES wrote
about their adventures and had the opportunity
during share time to read their work. It sounds
like all of our families had a wonderful time!
* We practiced reading and solving story
problems using pictures, numbers, and words.
* We used our new word wall words in sentences.
* We practiced subtraction and addition

all of the contents that were inside of it.
* Continue to check Progress Book for academic check-ins throughout the Trimester.
* April 15th is Pinney Spirit Day!
