child practicing outside of school! **
Reading/Writing Workshop
Students have been enjoying our newest reading theme, Fables. These are short
stories where animals are personified and help teach us a lesson/moral. Students have had practice with developing a deeper
understanding of author’s purpose and central message (theme) while also being able to site sections of the text for evidence.
Aesop’s Fables are meaningful lessons we all are using as we apply the 7 Habits in our daily lives. Students have been using the
writing skills to produce an opinion paper. It is important for the students to implement the model of this writing style to
introduce the topic, state an opinion, and provide details and to have a concluding statement. Students are being reminded of
the importance of transitions and neatness with this assessment. The children will be putting final editing touches on the
project “What is the Best Classroom Pet?”.
Math
Students began revisiting place value. We moved onto 3 and 4 digit numbers to determine place value. Students enjoyed
playing a version of yahtzee that helped them determine place value and earn points for creating 3 and 4 digit numbers. We also
began adding 3 and 4 digit numbers. Students will be expected to regroup when adding these numbers. We will then be moving
onto subtraction. Please make sure you are completing your weekly math homework and don’t forget to do xtramath!
Word Study:

and colored the landforms on a dinosaur picture, and completed a landform and bodies of
water cut and sort. Students were tested over landforms on Friday. Please check Progress
