Department Overview
NOVA is the nation's longest running and most respected primetime science series. NOVA's Education
division focuses on expanding and deepening NOVA's community of formal and informal STEM education
audiences. This involves developing new methods for reaching and sustaining this community, designing
innovative instructional programs and products, and establishing new strategic partnerships.
Position Overview
Under the direction of NOVA's Education Manager, the NOVA Labs Coordinator will be responsible for
working closely with educators and outreach organizations surrounding NOVA Labs-a new virtual
research platform for teens to engage in science by working with authentic data and taking part in "citizen
science" projects.
The NOVA Labs coordinator will be responsible for growing and sustaining an educational community
around the NOVA Labs online platform by initiating and sustaining strategic partnerships with external
organizations, producing and delivering professional development offerings, and supporting a growing
and vibrant online social network of Labs users. In addition, the NOVA Labs Coordinator will be
responsible for producing educational content and products that contextualize and leverage Lab content
to support the use of NOVA Labs for instructional purposes.
Skills Required
2-5 years work experience in STEM education.
. Classroom teaching experience
. Experience developing lesson plans and curricula surrounding or integrating Internet resources and/or
scientific data and software.
. Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other organizations.
. Experienced public speaker/presenter
. Excellent written and verbal communication skills . Expressed interest in science education . Willingness
and ability to travel nationally and work a flexible schedule, including on occasion nights and weekends.
. Able to multi-task in a deadline driven environment . Proactive and a team player
Desired skills/experience:
. Experience conducting professional development . Experience presenting online via webinars . Familiar
with presentation software such as PowerPoint or Keynote . Familiar with social media platforms including
Twitter and Facebook . Experience working on websites with online content management systems.
Educational Requirements
A degree in education, science education, science, or science communication.
