Committee Reports
Honors / Scholarships / Fundraising: Maureen/Sharie announced that they received eight qualified
applicants for the Foss & Smith OCW Scholarship. Maureen suggested that the funding be applied to four
scholarships: 1 at $2000, 2 at $1500 and 1 at $1325. Interested Steering Committee members signed up
to receive the packet of applications. Reviewers must have recommendations back to Maureen by April
4.
Newsletter / Directory Bev asked for help with the spring newsletter. Some possible topics include: an
update on the picnic, a recap of the two Ellen Bravo presentations, book club highlights, and information
about dues.
OCW Symposium Diane reported that about 50-60 people attended the 7:00 p.m. Ellen Bravo
presentation. At the 4:00 p.m. presentation Ellen talked about her life as an activist. Some women
mentioned that they missed having a lunch and an opportunity for informal discussion that was such a
vital part of previous symposiums.
We had a brief discussion about planning for next year; possible topics include: healthy work
environment, wellness, bullying in the workplace. Kaye Schendel’s name came up again as a possible
speaker. Kathleen Paris spoke at a training session that Jo Ann attended and is recommended.
Carmen sent a list of questions to Jennifer and Deb about funding for symposium. Having these questions
answered will help aid planning for future OCW Symposiums.
Program Committee The Book Club has picked their new books – we will be reading two books by Harriet
Mc Bryde Johnson, (one or both – people can decide). Mc Bryde Johnson is a speaker coming to campus
on April 16, and will be talking about what it is like to live life with a disability. She has authored Too
Late to Die Young and is an advocate for people with disabilities and Accidents of Nature which is a
fictional account of a girl growing up with cerebral palsy. Too Late to Die Young and Accidents of Nature
discussions are scheduled for Tues. April 15 at noon – Murphy’s Mug.
Social Committee Please mark you calendars for the picnic May 15th.
YWCA Tribute Susan left a note that Kenna Christians is the interim executive director of the YWCA.
Website Carmen asked about updating the dues collection cycle on the web. We’re going back to a fall
collection schedule for dues.
Officer Reports:
Treasurer: Jo Ann will send an email later with the exact amount in the OCW account.
Membership/Elections Diane reminded us that elections are coming up in April. Diane will count
remaining mugs, pins, etc.
New Business
We had a brief discussion regarding some sort of fall gathering/membership drive.
Old Business: none
Next Meeting: April 22, 2008 depending on room availability (CC 263) or possibly May 6.
Adjourned at 1:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Jenifer Holman
