innovation
Network Rail and 52 other partners from
across Europe contribute and benefit from
the In2Rail (I2R) innovation funding vehicle.
A range of projects is underway, covering
infrastructure, mobility management and
energy management, with the aim of
achieving TRL 5 by the end of 2018. A
selection of the projects will feed into the
Shift2Rail programme.

Some of the projects that are currently
planned include innovative maintenance
strategies, ‘nowcasting’ and forecasting,
smart metering, and system engineering.
