The Shift2Rail (S2R) programme is a European
rail innovation funding vehicle.
The focus of the programme is to develop
new technology through to
commercialisation, at Technology Readiness
Level (TRL) 7.
Shift2Rail is made up of five innovation
programmes (IPs) that focus on innovation in

different areas of the rail system. Network
Rail is mainly focussed on IP2 (Traffic
Management and Control) and IP3
(Infrastructure). Projects currently underway
include Cyber System Security, Proactive
Bridge and Tunnel Assessments, and
Adaptable Communications.
