This publication lists positions for which applications are currently being accepted. Applications may be obtained at the
Human Resources Office or the local Employment Security Commission. Applications are accepted Monday through Friday
from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (except holidays).
Applications received after the closing date will NOT be accepted.
As a
condition of employment, individuals hired by the County are required to present proof of identity and legal eligibility to work

Job Description
Duties will include: reception, switchboard, mail, data entry, scanning, copying, use of the agency’s
Northwoods Computer System, the State Network Computer Systems. Other duties may include:
picking up agency mail from post office, filing, storing and retrieving case files from offsite location,
as needed; and other miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Education & Experience
Completion of high school and one year of experience in clerical work, preferably including
reception and/or switchboard. Completed training in an accredited college, university, or business
school may be substituted.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to deal with the public in a professional and friendly manner at all times. Ability to learn and
satisfactorily perform computer-related duties using the Northwoods Computer System, State
Network Computer Systems, and Desktop Computer. Ability to resolve problem situations, answer
inquiries and questions independently and professionally, be resourceful in gathering, giving, and
explaining information. Ability to move and lift boxes to retrieve and file case records from storage
and transport files to and from offsite location. Ability to pick up daily mail from post office.
Ability to maintain clerical records and to compile reports from these records. Ability to read and
compare words and figures carefully and accurately. Ability to apply established departmental
procedures to a variety of work situations. Considerable knowledge of vocabulary, spelling,
grammar, and of office practices and procedures. The ability to multi-task is essential in this
position. Must have valid driver’s license.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to physically perform the functions of stooping, reaching, walking, standing, pulling,
lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Must have the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, perform accounting functions,
operate computer terminal, do extensive reading and determine the accuracy, neatness, and
thoroughness of the work assigned.
Must be able to perform sedentary to medium work which includes exerting 10-50 pounds of force
occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently.
Application Process
All applicants must be screened through the local Employment Security Commission, including
completion of typing test (25 correct wpm), along with County Application. Selection will be based
on related previous work experience and structured interview. Applications will be reviewed to select
the most qualified applicants for admission to the interview.
Note: All DSS positions are subject to reallocation contingent upon funding, agency needs and
client population and are subject to perform work during emergency or disaster situations as
required and may be required to staff shelters overnight.
