MOVIE REVIEW
Write a 3 - 4 pages review of a movie.
1. Typed, double spaced, no bigger than 12 pt. Plain font
2. Watch any version of one of the following movies:
Persuasion (or any works of Jane Austen), Taming of the Shrew (or any works of William Shakespeare),
Lord of the Rings, Jane Eyre, The Color Purple, Gone with the Wind, The Invisible Man, Dr. Zhivago,
Wuthering Heights, My Antonia, A Room with a View, The Wizard of OZ, Dracula, The Time Machine,
Ran, Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Little Women, For Whom the Bell Tolls, or Moby Dick
3. Answer the following questions in your review
a. What is the rating for this movie? Why did it receive this rating?
b. Did the movie (themes) develop logically?
c. Did the movie have good cinematic presentation? Was it well filmed? Did the setting, special effects,
lighting, actor direction, and other aspects of effective film making work?

A MODERN ARTHUR
Write a 5 - 6 pages modern tale including characteristics/elements from the legends of King Arthur.
1. Typed, double spaced, no bigger than 12 pt. Plain font
2. Read pages 904-932 about some of the legends of King Arthur.
3. Use other stories that you may know about the time and life of King Arthur and Camelot. Look up King
Arthur at the library or you might want to do some research on-line.
4. Include a bibliography at the end of your paper; including the sources you used in your story. You should
have a minimum of three resources.
5. Your story should be set in modern or futuristic times. You should include the characters, settings and/or
basic tales about King Arthur. But your final work must be original.
6. Remember that most of the King Arthur’s legends have a moral tone and are filled with descriptions of
pageantry (ceremony, rituals, acts of goodness, faith, loyalty and royal behavior.) Your story, though
modern or futuristic, should include these themes.
7. The final page of your story will be a description of why you selected these characters, setting or tale for
your story and specific examples from your story showing how you used them.
ORAL READING
Prepare an oral reading 3 - 4 minutes long
1. Select any reading or readings from the textbook between pages 515 – 885
a. You will read 2 – 3 minutes of your selection aloud to the class.
b. At the end of your reading you will give a brief explanation of why you chose your selection. Why did
it appeal to you? What did it mean to you?
c. You will make your presentation with feeling. Your goal is to draw in and interest the audience with
your voice, inflection, and tone. Make the audience feel why you like this particular piece so much.
2. Make an appointment to present your material at the Outside Independent Study program.
