Student Involvement Center
1.
The organization named on the application form is responsible for the space allocated.
2.
All organizations and their members must obey and adhere to the University of Northern Iowa Code of Student
Conduct.
3.
Those organizations requesting a mailbox must collect mail at least once a month. Any mail that has been left in a
mailbox for more than one month will be discarded. The only exception to this rule is summer break, but
arrangements should be made to pick up mail during summer months if possible.
4.
Organizations requesting desk space must hold office hours while classes are in session during the fall and spring
semesters. By not holding office hours, an organization will lose their space privileges. The only exception to this rule
is when classes are not in session. Officers’ names and hours are to be posted in the assigned space and be on file
with the Student Involvement Center.
5.
Organizations cannot attach stickers, decals, or signs to allotted space or on other surfaces.
6.
Damage beyond normal usage to a desk or storage space will be charged to the organization responsible for said
damage. Each area will be inspected and damages noted at the beginning and end of the agreement. Lobby
furniture may not be taken from common space in Maucker Union for use in the space.
7.
Any language, symbols or photographs demeaning any ethnicity, ability level, race, gender, sexual orientation or
creed upon assigned space are prohibited and subject to the loss of organization office privileges.
8.
Due to fire code regulations, and the possibility of a fire, organizations may not use candles, incense or any item
with an open flame in the Student Involvement Center. Students may not tamper with air ducts, heating units or fire
sprinkler systems.
9.
Alcohol, illegal drugs, smoking, or unprofessional behavior are not allowed.
10. Organizations should maintain a courteous atmosphere.
11. No individual (or organization) utilizing space is permitted to remain in the building after it closes. Persons found to
be in the Student Involvement Center after the building has closed may lose their office privileges.
12. The Student Involvement Center will be open in accordance with the Maucker Union hours, but shall close 30
minutes before the close of the building. The workroom and other services will only be available when student or
professional staff is available. Hours will be established for each semester and posted.
13. Each organization officer, member and guest is responsible for abiding by the Student Involvement Center policies
and other pertinent regulations.
14. University of Northern Iowa, Maucker Union and the Student Involvement Center are not responsible for loss of
property by student organizations or individuals utilizing this space. Students are encouraged to secure all items.
15. Cubicles will contain one computer. No printer will be provided for student organization use.
16. Space will be assigned or re-assigned based on particular needs and size of organizations. Organizations may or may
not receive the same space from year to year.
17. Food-related rubbish is prohibited in the hallways and offices. Please dispose of it in the trashcans.
18. If an organization violates any of the above rules the organization’s space privileges may be revoked.

students of UNI. Attention will be given to student organizations that are active members of the academic community,
provide an outlet for service to others, provide opportunities that reward honesty and integrity, and reflect a purposeful
community.

Justifications
Please submit the following information to complete this application.
1. Your organization’s plans for use of the office/storage space throughout the coming year, including proposed office
hours for both fall and spring semesters and the proposed active use of the space.
2. How is your organization serving the UNI community?
3. Please list events and services sponsored by your organization in the past year, if you are a new organization please
list anticipated events.

return of this application does not in any way guarantee desk/storage/mail space for our organization, and that this
application is not a contract. We acknowledge and understand that if we do receive space, our use of the space is
subject to compliance with all rules and regulation of the space and is subject to review by the Student Involvement
Center staff members. We understand and acknowledge that failure to abide by all applicable rules and regulations may
result in revocation of our space use privileges. We also understand that the assignment of space is to be considered a
privilege, not a right.
