ISU researches how ethanol has changed corn marketing
Iowa State University has started to research how the ethanol industry has
charged corn marketing. ISU is collecting information about corn use in ethanol
production and in livestock feed.
The data is being combined with the study of Iowa's ethanol and co-product
production capacities and storage capacities to create an overall picture of the
impact of ethanol production on agriculture.
"Processing and storage capacity, corn quality and consumption, and distribution
of distillers grains were the main points of interest,'' said Connie Hardy,
program specialist for ISU Extension. "But interview data also included plant
managers' opinions about future industry needs in market development,
transportation and logistics, and worker training.''
