Summer Seminars for Students and Recent Graduates
Dear Prof. Ramsey,
With just three weeks un l the applica on deadline for the IHS Summer Seminars, I
hope you will remind your students and recent graduates to apply.
The seminars focus on the ideas of liberty, such as individual autonomy and
representa ve government, and how these ideas apply across disciplines and
within careers.
The seminars last for one week and take place on college campuses throughout the
United States. More than 60 students a end each seminar, with a typical day that
includes lectures, discussion groups, and an evening recep on.
We offer 12 seminars, including five on incorpora ng economic and policy
approaches into careers and some on ideas and current issues. In par cular, I
recommend these seminars:
Liberty & Leviathan: Market-based, voluntary approaches to public policy
topics such as health care, immigra on, and banking.
Journalism & a Free Society: A workshop for aspiring journalists to learn
prac cal ps from professional journalists and also concepts, such as the
"seen and unseen," to use when inves ga ng news stories.
Scholarship & a Free Society: A graduate student research workshop on how
leading academics are using the classical liberal perspec ve as a paradigm for
academic research.
All students receive a full scholarship covering tui on, lodging, and meals. More
informa on is available at www.TheIHS.org/seminars.
The applica on deadline is March 31. Students who apply early - by March 15 could receive one of four free books on the ideas of a free society, such as The Law
or The Mystery of Capital.
Please tell your students and recent graduates about the seminars. We have flyers
for bulle n boards or for distribu on. If you use social networks, you can use these
pre-forma ed links to share the seminar URL, www.TheIHS.org/seminars, on
