2) THE FLYING TOUR + VISIT SINTRA (FULL DAY)
Flying tour followed by lunch in a local restaurant.
After lunch departure to Sintra, situated about 25 Kms from Lisbon, on the northern
slopes of its hills or serra. A rare oasis of beauty and tranquillity, Sintra has retained its
unique identity. Perhaps Lord
Byron summarised it more
expressively than anybody else
with his famous phrase:
“Sintra – Glorious Eden”.
Of its monuments, the most
interesting is the National
Palace which, for over 600
years, was used by kings both
as a summer residence and as a
hunting lodge – the forests then
were replete with stag and
wild boar. We visit the Palace,
its staterooms and kitchen,
where you can still see the
huge open fireplaces over
which game or oxen were roasted.
Return to Lisboa by the coastal road passing by Cascais and Estoril.

Minimum number of participants:

Includes coach, flight, English-speaking tour guide throughout the entire tour, admission
fee to the National Palace and two-course lunch with drinks.
3) MAFRA AND ERICEIRA (FULL DAY)
Departure to Mafra, is one of 15 districts, which form the province of Lisbon. The village
of Mafra is town hall and administrative center, located 40 km northwest of Lisbon and
8 km east of Ericeira.
It was the Portuguese "sun-king", D. João V, who promoted Mafra by constructing the
monastery - convent of Santo António, generally considered the starting point of the
Portuguese baroque.
Visit of the Convent: the Italian statuary (the biggest collection in Portugal), the two
carillons and the six organs (unique sets in the world), as well as the library, admirable
repository of the knowledge patronized by the magnanimous king.
Ericeira is a very old town,
probably a Phoenician port of
call and settlement. Its first
"foral" dates from the year
1229, conceded by the master
of the military order of Aviz,
D. Frei Fernão Rodrigues
Monteiro and renewed by king
Manuel I in 1513. In the past,
the population was generally
"people of the sea", forming
over many centuries an
ethnic-geographical
group
called "jagoz", different from
the rest of the inhabitants of
the "saloia" region. Ericeira
had its golden age in the 19th
century,
with
enormous
development since it was the
most crowded port in the
Estremadura, a customhouse,
which supplied almost the
entire province.
The old commercial importance corresponds to the notable tourism today, resulting
from its favored location and climate. The embarkation of the royal family to exile in
1910 will always make the port of Ericeira
one of the most dramatic places, as well as
the monumental and gastronomic heritage,
as seen in the variety of fish and seafood,
which are among its many attractions.
Lunch in a local restaurant and free time.
Return to Lisbon passing in the village of
Sobreiro, where visitors can enjoy a model
miniature village, complete in every detail,
created by José Franco.
