Signing In

All students arriving after Period 1 must sign in
at the Main Office
Students who have signed out must sign back
in before returning to class on the same day.
Students under 18 years of age must have a
note from a parent/guardian explaining the
reason for an absence.
Signing Out
 All students must sign out at the Main Office
before leaving school property for appointments
or illness.
 Students under the age of 18 must have
permission from a parent/guardian to leave
school property (except for lunch).
Phone the Main Office and follow the autoattendant instruction to leave a message, or stay
on the line to speak directly with an office staff
member. It is helpful if you know the class your
child is in at the time of your call.


Please do not call your student on their cell
phones during class time.
Standardized test of reading and writing for
all Ontario students in Grade 10
Students must pass this test in order to
receive the Ontario Secondary School
diploma
2 ½ hour written test will be given Thurs.
March 31 and students will have an option
to write an on-line version of the test in the
fall.
Program & Course Selection
Student Fees
A student fee of $45 is charged by the Student
Senate when the student registers at the
beginning of the year. This fee is for the
students ID card (required for signing books out
of the library, participate in clubs or sports,
entrance to school dances, obtaining student bus
tickets), school yearbook and a student agenda
book.
School Council
As a parent/guardian one of the most effective
ways to be involved and stay informed in school
activities is by becoming a member of the School
Council. School Council meets during the school
nd
every 2 Wednesday of the month (except
December & March) from 7 – 9.00pm in the
school library. School Council does not
fundraise. Members include parents (majority),
Principal and/or Vice Principal, teacher & student
senate reps, and a community member.
Parents/guardians are always welcome to attend
meetings as observers.

can be done online.

GCVI Website.
Students are strongly encouraged to consult
with parents/guardians when making course
selections.
If you have questions, please call the
Guidance Department for clarification or to
make an appointment.
Community Involvement
Students are required to complete a minimum of
40 hours unpaid community involvement during
their time at GCVI in order to receive their
Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
 Each Grade 9 student will be provided with a
Record keeping book during the fall
semester to record their hours. Replacement
booklets can be obtained from the Guidance
Department or online at the Upper Grand
District Board Web Site.
 The record keeping booklet must be turned
into the Guidance Office before Graduation.
It is the Student/Parent’s responsibility to
submit completed booklet.
