Voigt’s Grade 4/5 class.
We are pleased to have Mr. Ainge
join the Glenbrook team. We invite
parents to come in to meet Mr. Ainge
at your earliest convenience. Mr.
Ainge is at Glenbrook in the afternoon on Days 2, 3 and 4.
We would also like to wish Mrs. Eisen
well as she prepares to go on her
maternity leave.
Mrs. Eisen has
been teaching the students in our
Grade 3/4 class. We look forward to
hearing about the arrival of the newest member of the Eisen family!
We would like to welcome Ms. Breadner to Glenbrook School. Ms. Breadner will be taking over the teaching
responsibilities in the Grade 3/4

very familiar with our
school, staff and students. We are pleased
to have her join us.
October 24th Professional Development Day:
The staff at Glenbrook will be participating in a Professional Development Day on Friday, October 24th. This day will focus on developing a School Improvement Plan with Guided Reading and Mathematics instruction being two components of this plan.
Staff will also be reviewing our students’ E.Q.A.O. scores on the 2013—2014
Primary and Junior Assessments. Plans will be developed to improve student
achievement on these assessments.
During the afternoon school staff will focus on assessment and evaluation in
preparation for the Progress Reports which will be sent home on Nov. 13th.

Nutrition Break Supervisors Needed:
Grade 8 Careers Day:
We currently have three Nutrition Break Supervisors who come to the school
during our nutrition breaks to supervise students in their classrooms while they
eat their snacks. These adults then supervise students on the yard for the remaining 20 minutes of the break. This is a paid position.
On Tuesday, October
7th, 2014, our Grade
8 students will be
travelling to the Orangeville Agricultural
Centre to participate in a Career
Awareness Day.
Occasionally we require replacement supervisors when a supervisor is unable
to fulfill his/her duties due to illness or another commitment. If you are available
during school hours (10:30—11:10 and 12:50—1:30) and would be willing to
take on these supervision duties, please contact the school office at your earliest convenience (519) 925-0580. We will be establishing
an occasional Nutrition Break Supervisor list during the
month of October. A Criminal Reference Check is required
for this position. We appreciate any assistance that you
can provide.

areas for further improvement.
Glenbrook School Council Meeting:
Glenbrook’s School Council will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, October
15th at 6:15 p.m. in the school’s staff room. We invite all Glenbrook parents to
attend this meeting. We are happy to report that we have had some parents
new to the Glenbrook community join our Council. We are hoping that many
more parents will get involved this year.
The School Council’s Playground Committee will meet on
Tuesday, October 7th at 6:30 p.m. All parents are welcome
to attend this important meeting as well!
The first part of the day will be spent
listening to a guest speaker and then
students will have an opportunity to
learn about a variety of careers
through workshop presentations and
by asking questions of the presenters.
We are
pleased that our
students have been
given this opportunity again this
year.

coming to Glenbrook school on
Thursday, October 9th to take class

Inclement Weather Procedures for Glenbrook School:
Glenbrook will be open when buses are cancelled. This is due to the fact that our school is not dependent on bus transportation and all of our students can walk to school. It is very important for parents/guardians to report student absences from school on the attendance line before 8:30 am, should you believe that weather conditions are such that
it is unsafe for your child(ren) to walk to school, and you have made the decision to keep your child(ren) at home.
Glenbrook does have an “information” mailbox. It is an “Inclement Weather Information Mailbox” that
can be reached by dialing 519-925-0580, ext 410.
Another alternative is to access our Board’s Transportation website: www.stwdsts.ca/. Scroll down to
the bottom of the page and read the transportation information in the green box for Dufferin County.

Celebrate International Walk to School Day
Wednesday, October 8, 2014
Walking is good exercise. It’s a way to increase physical activity among children.
Walking keeps the air clean. It reduces the number of cars on the road, which ultimately reduces air pollution.
Walking enhances stamina and gives more energy. Children who walk are more alert and ready to learn.
Walking relaxes a child, lessens anxiety and tension.
Walking to school empowers children thereby fostering independence.
Walking is economical. You will not need to fill up your legs with gas.
Walking is educational. You will better admire all the beauties in your neighbourhood.
Walking is fun and a great way to meet new friends.
A Message From Mrs. Stewart in The School Library:
A big thank you to the Glenbrook community for your support during the first book fair of the year. It was a great success. Students have started checking out books and enjoying the new additions to the library. Please remember to
help your child look after their library books by placing them away from pets, food, drinks and very small children.
During October, the entire student population at Glenbrook will be reading 5 picture books.
All students and staff will vote for their favourite book. The winner will be announced at an
assembly at the end of October and copies of each book will be given away. This is our first
Glenbrook Reads! We are looking forward to discovering which picture book is the favourite
book of the Grizzlies!
