Post Office Unit for Kindergarten 2015
Dear Families,
In conjunction with our Valentine unit, your children will be acting as postal workers! They
will be buying and canceling stamps, and sorting and delivering our valentines.
Because delivering and sorting our Valentines will take several days, we are asking that
each child bring in their Valentines no later than Friday, January 30th. Each Valentine needs
to be in an envelope (very important)! I know that most Valentines no longer come with
envelopes, but I am asking that you put the Valentines into an inexpensive envelope, if
necessary. (The Dollar Tree has a package of envelopes for one dollar.) Each envelope should
be addressed with the house number of one of their classmates or teachers. Do not write a
child’s name on the envelope-just the house number. See the sample below. It is very
important that the numbers written on the envelopes are written neatly and in the
method of printing that our Kindergarten program uses. For example, the European seven
( ) is very difficult for our Kindergarten postal workers to read, same with a two that is made
like this ( ) and a four like this ( ). I know that this may seem like a lot to ask, but it makes
the post office in the classroom run much more smoothly. Please, also check your child’s
writing for accuracy and reversals on all the valentines. We are aware that this may take a few
nights to accomplish.
I have attached a list of all the house numbers for all the Kindergarten students and
teachers. Each student should return 22 unstamped envelopes each with the house number
of a teacher or friend by Friday.
