How did the Renaissance influence Shakespeare’s writing? How has our
modern era been influenced by Shakespeare’s writing?
Lesson Goal:
Students will understand how the culture, beliefs and entertainment of the
Renaissance time period impacted the literary world then and today.
Activator:
Individually, students need to look at their grades in Powerschool and
Showbie to determine if they have submitted all assignments to date.
Students should list on paper any assignments they need to complete and
make a plan of action on how to complete all assignments before the end of
semester. Teacher will walk and speak to each student.
Performance Tasks:
1. Teacher will review completed Research Papers with class and
discuss common mistakes and strategies to make it better for
remainder of Senior Project.
2. Students will take pretest on Macbeth.
3. Teacher will review Station Learning activity planned for next two
days. Teams will be responsible for different learning stations at
next class meeting. Students will need to put all bags and personal
belongings on the rolling cart. You will need a pencil and iPad for
the activity. You will need earbuds or headphones for one or two of
the stations. Teams of six will have 15 minutes at each station and
will move to the next sequential station number. For example,
Station 1 will move to Station 2, St 2 to St 3, St 5 to St 6, St 6 to St 1,
etc. Students must move after 15 minutes to the new station.
4. Teacher will show students Shakespeare’s connection to the Bible
with an interactive activity.
Summarizer:

concerns or hopes are for reading a Shakespeare play.

personal belongings and bags to the front of the classroom and have their
iPads, pencils and earbuds ready.
Performance Tasks:
1. Students will rotate (15 minutes per station) and complete three
stations a day. Teacher will keep the time and tell when to rotate.
2. Stations: (1) English Renaissance- Students will scan the QR code
and watch the video. They will answer a set of questions on a
handout. (2) Renaissance Theater- Students will research 10 people
and places associated with the Renaissance Theater. They will write
a two-sentence summary for each. (3) Shakespeare Bio- Students
will scan QR code and will read about Shakespeare’s life and answer
set of questions on handout. (4) Elements of Tragedy- Students will
read an article handout and create a Popplet to answer six related
tasks. (5) Drama Terms- Students will complete a crossword puzzle
on terms related to a drama. (6) Macbeth- Students will scan a QR
code to access a copy of the play to move to iBooks and another QR
code to find the list of characters. They will make a Popplet for the
characters to reference as the class reads the play.
Collect needed personal belongings and materials. Save for tomorrow.

What strategies can be used to teach and learn how to understand
Shakespeare’s unique writing style?
Lesson Goal:
Students will be participate in a whole class interactive performance of Act
1 of Macbeth to understand and learn the content.
Activator:
As a team, explain the meaning of the phrase “Fair is foul and foul is fair.”
This is a theme that is introduced in the opening scene of Macbeth and one
that will be carried throughout the play.
Performance Tasks:
1. Teacher will assign each student a character or object for Act 1 for
the reenactment.
2. Students will participate in a performance led by teacher. The
teaching technique is called Woosh. Students will be given copies of
the play to follow along and are expected to participate as teacher
invites them.
