Coming from his time as a general in WWII, Dwight Eisenhower realized that the U.S. highway
system would provide transport routes for military supplies and troop deployments in case of a
foreign invasion.
“Our unity as a nation is
sustained by free
communication of thought and
by easy transportation of people
and goods. The ceaseless flow of
information throughout the
Republic is matched by
individual and commercial
movement over a vast system of
interconnected highways
crisscrossing the country and
joining at our national borders with friendly neighbors to the north and south.”
— President Dwight D. Eisenhower February 22, 1955

The Federal Aid Road act of 1916, signed by Woodrow Wilson, was very important, as it funded
public roads, and helped fund the U.S. Interstate highway system
”In addition to enabling rural Americans to participate
more efficiently in the national economy, the Federal Aid
Road Act was a precursor to the Federal Highway Act of
1921, which provided federal aid to the states for the
building of an interconnected interstate highway system.
The interstate highway issue would not be fully addressed
until much later, when the Federal Highway Act of 1956
allocated more than $30 billion for the construction of
some 41,000 miles of interstate highways.”

The Model T was an automobile that had a really low cost to manufacture; so many American
could afford a car, and not just the rich.
"I will build a car for the great
multitude. It will be large
enough for the family, but small
enough for the individual to run
and care for. It will be
constructed of the best materials, by the best men to be hired, after the simplest designs that
modern engineering can devise. But it will be low in price that no man making a good salary will
be unable to own one-and enjoy with his family the blessing of hours of pleasure in God's great
open spaces."-Henry Ford
