Enterprise Square Galleries

CALL FOR PROPOSALS
The University of Alberta Museums and the City of Edmonton are collaborating to provide exhibition
space for local visual artists and arts and heritage organizations, as part of the annual programming at
the Enterprise Square Galleries.
At this time, the UofA Museums invites proposals from Greater Edmonton Area visual artists, collectives,
curators, and local arts and heritage organizations to produce an exhibition or project at the Enterprise
Square Galleries during the 2014 – 2015 programming year (July 1st 2014 – August 31st 2015). We
welcome all types of media, and all sizes of exhibitions and projects. Proposed exhibitions should
feature new works of art, or works of art which have not previously been exhibited in the Greater
Edmonton Area. Programming is adjudicated by the Enterprise Square Galleries Program Committee.
You will be provided with:
 500 ft² - 4500 ft² of environmentally-controlled exhibition space (see attached diagram of
Galleries F, G, H, & I)
 24 hour security
 Gallery attendants and reception desk staffing during public opening hours
 Public opening hours: Thursday-Friday noon-6pm, Saturday’s noon-4pm
 Although applicants are expected to provide volunteers to install their own exhibitions, the UofA
Museums will provide Preparator staff to assist exhibitors with installation.
 $20,000 toward exhibition-related costs to share amongst successful applicants. Amounts will
be distributed according to the size and scope of each project, to a maximum of $5000
(applicants are encouraged to apply for additional funding through other granting bodies – such
as the Edmonton Arts Council, or the Edmonton Heritage Council).
PROPOSALS SHOULD INCLUDE:
□ A brief overview and description of your exhibition (750 words max.)
□ An artist statement (500 words max.)
□ The Mandate and Mission of your organization/collective (1000 words max.), along with any
other relevant information, or history.
□ Ten sample images of artworks you propose to include in your exhibition – images should be at
least 300 dpi in quality in .jpeg or .ppt format (organizations/collectives may submit up to
twenty sample images). Link to a website is preferred.
□ List of images (including file name, title, date, medium, and actual size of the artwork)
□ List of exhibition requirements – including installation materials such as wall-hangers, ceiling
hangers, signage, display cases, frames, AV equipment, tables/chairs, performance times, etc.

Proposed exhibition budget. Budgets should account for: CARFAC-schedule artist fees, exhibit
signage (such as artwork labels, introductory wall-text panels, etc.) framing, display case
design/construction, technical equipment rentals (such as projectors, dvd players, speakers,
etc.), shipping/transport of artwork, marketing, opening reception (food, liquor license,
plates/glasses rentals, etc.).
Estimated amount and type of space required (ex. 50 ft of wall space, 450 ft² of floor space,
darkened room for video projection, etc.)
Preferred exhibition dates, and minimum/maximum preferred exhibition duration (ex. 3-days, 2weeks, 2-months)
Your CV, or the CVs of all the relevant artists and/or curators in your exhibition. CVs should
include all of the following information: name, address, phone, email, website (if applicable),
exhibition history, relevant education, and relevant work history
ADDITIONAL CRITERIA:
 This call is for non-profit organizations and individual artists only
 Although post-secondary class or student group projects are ineligible, proposals from
collectives who include students are welcome
 If your organization currently manages an exhibition space as part of your operations, please tell
us why you would like to exhibit at Enterprise Square Galleries in your proposal.

Please note:
* An information session coinciding with this Call for Proposals – Exhibit with Us: Learn How – will
be held at Enterprise Square Galleries on Saturday March 29th, 2014 (1:00pm-2:30pm) to give
potential applicants the chance to view the space, to hear about what kinds of resources are
available to exhibitors at ESGs, and to provide potential applicants with additional information
on what their proposals should include.
