Purpose of Position: The role of the PCA provides daily care to ensure the needs of the aged care residents in the residential care facility and/or community clients are met and exceeded in a caring and safe Christian environment where excellence can thrive. Term: Appointed By: Care Manager Responsible To: Registered Nurse / EEN on duty who report to (Clinical) Care Manager and domestic supervisors for cleaning duties Responsible for: The provision of resident centred care under the direction of the registered nurse and other duties to domestic supervisors / operations manager. Authority Level: To operate within guidelines set by the Executive Care Manager. Position Evaluation Appraisal: An initial review of performance will be undertaken within six months of employment and then formally reviewed every 12 months after commencement, based on the job description. Qualifications & Experience: Certificate III in aged care or community aged care or working towards it. Prior experience in aged care desired. Experience in dementia care desired. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in delivery of contemporary aged care. Computer literacy with good written and oral skills. Ensure all documentation is updated and completed daily as required. Ensure time is managed effectively to meet the care needs of the residents. Report on maintenance form any equipment or item that needs repair / replacement. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding in the application of skills in the use of equipment eg. lifting aids. Support the independence of residents by providing appropriate assistance with personal care needs in accordance with resident care plans. Act at all times to protect the rights of the resident, including confidentiality, privacy, individual choice and decision making. Support the resident’s spiritual and emotional needs. Assist the RN’s by observing and promptly reporting any changes in resident’s behaviour or health/ well-being and documenting as appropriate. Assist residents with eating, drinking transfers, hygiene. Ensure residents’ behaviours of concern are understood and managed effectively. Continence programs are understood and implemented and documented. Perform correct bed making and have good understanding of infection control techniques. Perform multi-skilled duties as directed by the Care Manager, eg. laundry or cleaning duties. Be aware of own role and role of other team members.
