Chapters 5-12
Chapter 5- Sharing the Road
• I. Trucks and Busses
– A. stay out of the blind spot when following other vehicles.
– B. Give large vehicles plenty of room to turn.
– C. Be ready to make steering adjustments when meeting large vehicles
on two-way highways.
• II. Slow-Moving Vehicles
– A. Farm vehicles, construction equipments & vehicles drawn by
animals.
• III. Pedestrians
– A. Crossing a road- When crossing any place other than a marked or
unmarked x-walk, pedestrians must yield
– B. Jogging and Walking- Face oncoming traffic. At night wear light
colored clothing.
– C. Hitchhiking- illegal $2500 fine and 1 year in jail

V. Motorcycles
– A. Motorcycle riders have the same rights and responsibilities as other roadway users.
– B. Drivers should never share the same lane with a motorcycle.
– C. Do not pass the motorcycle in the same lane, change lanes and pass the way you
would pass another vehicle.
– D. Have the same right-of-way privileges as other vehicles. Special observance should be
given to motorcyclists when they approach an intersection, a railroad crossing, bridge or
when bad weather occurs.
VI.Bicycles
– A. have the same rights and responsibilities as other roadway users

– C. Drivers should use caution when making a right turn when bicyclists are present.

Chapter 6- Driving under the influence
• I. Alcohol Facts:
– A. Alcohol is the #1 killer on American Roads.
– B. Time is the only way to remove the effects of
alcohol.
• II. Blood alcohol concentration
– A. B.A.C is the amount of alcohol in your system
– B. It is illegal to drive if your BAC is .08 of greater.
Chapter 6- Driving under the influence
• III.DUI Laws:
– A. Implied consent Law: when driving on Illinois roadways,
you automatically give you consent to certain tests
following arrest for DUI.
– B. Lists three ways your license will be suspended
(statutory summary suspension law) after you have been
arrested for driving under the influence (DUI).
• 1. BAC over .08, 6 month suspension.
• 2. Any trace of a controlled substance, 6 month suspension.
• 3. Refuse to take a breath test, 1 year suspension.
– C. Zero Tolerance Suspension: will remove the driving
privilege of any person under the age of 21 who is caught
driving with any trace of alcohol or drugs in their system.

• II. Filing an Accident Report;
– Regardless of fault, a report must be filed within 10
days if the crash involves: Death, bodily injury or
property damage over $1,500.00.

vehicle:
– A. Leave your name, address, phone number and
license plate number on the vehicle or the property
you damaged if you can’t find the owner. Then notify
the police.

– C. your driving privilege will be taken away for 1 year.

office directs otherwise.

– A. Solid white lines: Used on the right edge of the
road.
– B. Solid Yellow lines: No passing if it is on your side. It
is also used on the left edge of divided streets or
highways.
– C. Broken yellow lines: separates traffic moving in
opposite directions.
– D. Broken White lines: separates traffic moving in the
same direction.
– E. Two-way left turn lanes: for left turns only.

in a manner that endangers others.

within limits of your vision, watch the edgeline of the road.

• 1. let up on the gas, turn in the direction of the skid.

• 1. grip the wheel firmly, slow down.

vehicle?

• Symptoms: sleepy, yawning, nausea, headache
• Never: run engine in a closed garage
• Always: leave window crack when parked with the engine running
– U-turns: legal on state highways if you can see 500 feet in either
direction. It is illegal to make a U-turn in many towns.
