Run Ottawa Membership Proposal
Re-boot the Membership Program in alignment to our Mission, Vision and
Strategic Plan.
Macro Objectives:
• Make the Membership Program more attractive to potential new
members and existing members; reduce turnover and improve
engagement
Timing:
•
Initiate in first half of 2016, likely Feb 1 (30 day announcement period)

Privileges of Membership
By-Laws Sec 8.3: Membership Dues
The Board shall determine the fees for membership and the privileges
associated with membership.
Proposed for 2016:
The Privileges of Membership are as follows;
1.Membership in Run Ottawa
2.Opportunity to contribute to the organization through board, committees,
volunteering and attending the AGM
3.Access to enjoy the privileges of the Run Ottawa (enhanced) Membership
Program (see last two slides)

Membership fees
By-Laws Sec 8.3: Membership Dues
The Board shall determine the fees for membership and the privileges
associated with membership.
Proposed for 2016:
Current Membership as of Dec 31, 2015 will be extended to Dec 31, 2016
In reflection of the added values the NEW Membership fees are as follows;
1. Adults $50
2. Youth (18 and under) $30
3. Family membership $100
Memberships are annual on calendar year (Jan 1 – Dec 31)

Proposed Motion
That, in accordance with Bylaw 8.3, the Board is asked to consider the
following motion
Approve the fee structure and membership privileges proposed on the
preceding slides

2016 Membership Program
Program may change from time to time depending on member feedback and
financial viability
Race Discounts
•
Introduce a $10 discount to races with meaningful fees to encourage event
participation, further to this also
•
Include one free event registration (excluding TORW)
•
Guarantee access to TORW event if sold out
Current Membership Renewals
•
Renew for 2017 membership by (March 30, 2016) & receive Run Ottawa t-shirt
and hat
Communication:
•
Run Ottawa has hired a new membership coordinator to focus on
communications with a focus on (but not limited to) social media, e.g., to provide
event photos, updates. Show the fun!
Retail Partners
•
Define retail offers and communicate special events (ex. RR shopping night)

2016 Membership Program
Strong focus on Run Ottawa member experience. Enhance value for members
with regular meaningful offers, such as:
•
Implement social “member runs” e.g., Beer Runs, Coffee Runs
•
Offer social cross-training activities – soccer, yoga, cycling, XC skiing
•
Offer exclusive prizing & services for members at Run Ottawa events
•
Offer periodic benefits or prizes via email – free entries, sunglasses, watches
•
Offer access to / discounts on Run Ottawa member apparel
•
Develop member-driven training sessions/coaching
•
Offer pre-run sit-down events: e.g., talks on nutrition, motivation, training,
“legends series”
Develop strategy to attract new members
• e.g., Approach former members
• e.g., Offer incentives to current members (e.g., refer a friend)
• e.g., Approach running groups in the capital to discover mutual benefits
