Because they were immigrants.

Production was high and there were many new products and small appliances to make life easier. If you didn’t have the money, you could now buy it on the installment plan. You could also purchase stock on borrowed money by “buying on the margin”.

Buy now on credit and pay monthly amounts to the store.

Buying for the purpose of resale to make a profit And what were investors speculating on in the Twenties?

Buying stock with borrowed money. You put 10% of your own money in and can borrow 90% from the broker. This works fine if you have buyer when you want to sell the stock. If you don’t, you will lose and have to pay the broker back with making no profit..

Panic due to people not buying stock. Prices went down and many people tried to sell.

There was a spiral effect which caused stock prices to keep falling because so many people were selling. Bank loans became due and people could not afford to pay them.

He was “cool-headed”, said little, but thought out decisions very carefully. He favored business and wanted to bring back prosperity.
