Effort and Achievement
If I work hard, will my grades go up?
Those Report Cards
DEAR TEACHER:
My son gets grades in every one of his content classes.
One grade is for achievement but the other grade is for
his effort. I am not sure about which grade I should be
most concerned? Are both important?
A Worried LEMS Parent
The Answer
Dear Worried Parent:
The grades are for different things. The
achievement grade says how well your son
knows the content.
The effort grade shows how hard your son
is working during class, how much he is
participating in class discussions and if he is
completing homework assignments.
The answer continued…
You should look at how the two grades work
together.
When he gets a good grade in effort, is he
getting a good grade in achievement? Probably
so!
Or, if he has a poor grade in effort, is his
achievement grade low? Also, yes.
Encourage his efforts! His grades are sure to
shine.
