Standard Air and Lite – IT Administrator Intern Job Description
Standard Air and Lite is a long standing Pittsburgh, PA based HVAC wholesaler and independent
distributor of HVAC products. Since its inception in 1940, the company is dedicated to providing
HVAC contractors and dealers with equipment that exceed customer expectations.
To meet its growth needs, Standard Air and Lite is seeking an IT Administrator Inter. In this role
as the IT intern for the organization, you will provide information technology applications to
business issues, IT solutions to organization leaders and IT expertise to individual employee PC
and laptop users. In essence, you would be responsible for all information technology systems,
application, and technical support for the organization of approximately 70 employees. This
position reports directly to the IT Manager.
This is the ultimate IT role for that individual who desires the challenge and opportunity of having
the broadest IT responsibilities and being able to support the entire IT operation for a profitable
enterprise.
The key responsibilities and duties of this position would include:
Business reports generation
 Extracts, gathers and analyzes data from the HVAC industry specific software (DMS2
provided by J&M Industries) and data mining software to generate specialized reports for
managers, tailored to their needs.
 Generates business and department specific reports as requested from this data (specific
business areas include, revenue, sales, accounts payable, accounts receivables, general
ledger, warehouse, and inventory.)
 Interprets the requirements of individuals to generate desired business reports; develops
the layouts and formats for the reports.
 Provides IT support for annual inventory; provides quarterly and year-end financial reports.
IT System Maintenance and Administration
 Communicates with IT Vendors to maintain, troubleshoot and upgrade current systems.
 Maintains database systems and is responsible for the integrity of the data and performance
and efficiency of the system.
 Some web design and website administrative duties.
 Initiates daily backup procedures, maintains backup tape library, coordinate backups with
alternate backup personnel when not available.
 Candidate will maintain assets such as: IBM P520/AIX Mainframe; Windows Server 2008
R2 Domain Controller, Webserver, SQL Server and MS Exchange 2010 running on
VMWare, Sendio email filter service, IStore Backup Appliance, Warehouse RF/WiFi
system with hand-held scanners, MPLS network connecting 4 branch offices to main
office, Sonicwall NSA/SSL-VPN network security appliances, etc.
IT Technical Support
 Provides technical support to individual employee users.
 Responds to users difficulties with IT systems; diagnoses and solves users’ issues.



Establishes new employee users with domain and email accounts and any applicable
hardware and software.
Installs, configures and troubleshoots software and hardware.
Provide training and instruction to users.
Requirements
 Enrolled in BS Degree in Information Systems or related academic discipline; certifications
or equivalent experience will be considered.
 Strong breadth of IT knowledge and experience.













Knowledge of Microsoft Server 2008 Operating System, Active Directory, Group Policy
and VB Scripting as well as troubleshooting procedures and industry best-practices for
implementation.
Knowledge of Email Servers & Protocols; Knowledge of MS Exchange 2010 Preferred.
Knowledge of Microsoft Workstation Operating Systems including Windows XP, Vista,
and 7.
Strong skills using advanced features of MS Office 2010 including, MS Access and Excel.
Knowledge of Macros and VBScript desired.
Some experience working with query languages. Primary languages include TSQL/SQL,
HTML.
Knowledge of IT systems applied to a business operation – knowledge of accounting terms
and practices such as GL, A/P, A/R, Inventory/Warehousing, Profits, and Sales.
Knowledge of computer security to ensure the integrity and security of the business critical
systems information.
Computer hardware and software deployment and troubleshooting expertise.
Strong problem diagnosis and problem solving skills, often under various time constraints
and stress.
Experience as an IT generalist (not specialist) is preferred.
Strong initiative and self directed.
Able to work independently with little administrative direction and minimal
functional/technical direction.
Strong reliability and service orientation to serve as help-desk, support desk, technical
expert and instructor/trainer to employee IT users.
