Units of length

  • Line (unit)
The line (abbreviated L or l) was a small English unit of length, variously reckoned as  1⁄10,  1⁄12,  1⁄16, or  1⁄40 of an inch.
  • Astronomical unit
The astronomical unit (symbol au, AU or ua) is a unit of length, roughly the distance from Earth to the Sun.
  • Li (unit)
The li (Chinese: 里, lǐ, or 市里, shìlǐ), also known as the Chinese mile, is a traditional Chinese unit of distance.
  • Mile
The mile is an English unit of length of linear measure equal to 5,280 feet, or 1,760 yards, and standardised as exactly 1,609.
  • League (unit)
A league is a unit of length (or, in various regions, area).
  • Kos (unit)
The kos is an ancient unit of distance that has been in use in the Indian subcontinent for over three thousand years; evidence exists from Vedic times to the Mughal period, and even now elderly people in rural areas refer to distances from nearby areas in kos.
  • Micrometre
The micrometre (International spelling as used by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures; SI symbol: μm) or micrometer (American spelling), also as a micron, is an SI derived unit of length equaling 1×10−6 of a metre (SI standard prefix "micro-" = 10−6); that is, one millionth of a metre (or one thousandth of a millimetre, 0.001 mm, or about 0.000039 inch).
  • Earth radius
Earth radius is the distance from the Earth's center to its surface, about 6,371 km (3,959 mi).
  • Unit of length
A Unit of length refers to any discrete, pre-established length or distance having a constant magnitude which is used as a reference or convention to express linear dimension.
  • Parsec
A parsec (symbol: pc) is a unit of length used to measure large distances to objects outside our Solar System.
  • Foot (unit)
A foot (pl. feet; abbreviation: ft; symbol: ′, the prime symbol) is a unit of length in the imperial and US customary systems of measurement.
