What is the excretory system?
The system of an oragnism's body that performs the function of excretion, the bodily process of discharging wastes.
What parts of the body make up the excretory system?
Sweat glands, Liver, Lungs, Kidney, Bladder.
Is the expulsion of faeces part of the excretory system?
No. Defecation is part of the digestive system.
What are the sweat glands responsible for?
Clearing excess micronutrients, metabolic waste, and toxicants from the body.
What do the lungs excrete?
CO2 and H2O through respiration (breathing).
How does the liver aid in excretion?
The liver breaks down harmful substances, excreting the by-products into bile or blood.
Bile by-products enter the intestine and leave the body through faeces.
Blood by-products are filtered out by the kidneys and leave the body through urine.
How do the kidneys aid in excretion?
The kidneys filter by-products from your blood. They do this using ultrafiltration (UF). Anything valuable is reabsorbed by a process called diffusion. 99% of fluid is reabsorbed.
