Written warning
a notice to the Respondent notifying them that their conduct has violated one of the Codes and should not be repeated or continued
reprimand
A confidential procedure employed when the unethical conduct is minor. It is issued only to the Respondent and to the person who filed the complaint. Further disclosure is unethical.
censure
A public reprimand; the violation is published in The ASHA Leader, identifying the person, their city and state of residence, and the code violated. May be shared with any licensure entity or professional organization the individual is involved with
suspension
Meant to be employed for a short period of time (e.g., 6 months); during the period of suspension, the sanctioned member must pay all dues and fees as well as fulfill certification maintenance requirements
revocation
ASHA membership and certification is revoked for a number of years, up to life. After the period of revocation has expired, the individual must petition the BOE for approval of reinstatement
withholding
If an individual in the process of earning certification is found to be in violation of the Code of Ethics, then membership and certification can be withheld for a period of years up to life. After the period of withholding has expired, the individual must petition the BOE for reinstatement.
Cease and desist orders
The BOE can order an individual to cease and desist any reported unethical conduct; failure to comply is unethical and could result in revocation of membership and certification

What is a manifestation determination meeting?
A meeting at which the parents of a special education student and staff meet to answer two questions:
1. Was the conduct caused by, or had a direct relationship to, the child’s disability?
2. Was the conduct the direct result of the school’s failure to implement the IEP?
A manifestation determination meeting must be held if:
1. The child has been suspended for 10 consecutive days
2. The child has been suspended for a cumulative total of 10 days for similar behaviors in the same school year
3. The school district is considering expulsion
If the answer to either or both of those question in the manifestation meeting is “yes,” then:
1. The child cannot be expelled
2. If a suspension, the child has the right to return to the current placement
However, the child may be placed in an alternative educational placement for up to 45 days if the behavior was related to:
1. Possession of a dangerous weapon at school or during an event
2. Possession, use, or sale of an illicit drug or controlled substance
3. Serious bodily injury to others
Section 504
A. Prohibits discrimination based on disability
B. Protects children with physical or mental impairments that substantially limits one or more life activities
C. Provides for 504 plans to describe and document modifications the child is entitled to receive, by law
