Next measure the dimensions of the object using a ruler.
STEP 3
Then calculate the volume using the equation: volume = length x width x height.
STEP 4
Then calculate the density using the equation: Density=mass/volume.
How to find the density of an irregular solid STEP 1
Use a balance to measure the mass of the object.
STEP 2
Then fill the displacement can with water up to just below the tip.
STEP 3
Then place the object in the displacement can.
STEP 4
Next measure the amount of water that comes out of the can using a measuring cylinder.
STEP 5
Work out volume which is:
- Volume of object = volume of water
STEP 6
Work out density with the equation:
- Density = Mass/volume
Equipment list
- Balance
- Displacement can
- Ruler
