Upsurge of cultural identities or culturally constituted groups, in which identity is circumscribed in terms of shared knowledge, meanings, values, behaviour and a characteristic way of life unique to each group

Culturally constituted groups compete for access to resources, ward off demands from the state & wider society, & protected resources of which they inadvertently became owners

People are captivated by a characterisation of themselves

Representation of cultural identity and rights doesn't only impose limitations but offers benefits

People need the freedom to be flexible

Notion that demarcated cultural identities have persisted unchanged through to the present

Stereotyping of culture and rights in a way that highlights one aspect of the reality of the real world
