Flashcards: Math Vocabulary Terms (from TinyCards)
ray
a part of a line made up of an endpoint and all of the points on one side of it
angle
formed by rotating a ray about its endpoint
angle's initial side
the ray's original position
angle's terminal side
the ray's position after the rotation
vertex
endpoint of an angle
positive angle
angle with counterclockwise rotation
negative angle
angle with clockwise rotation
coterminal angles
angles that have the same initial and terminal sides
angle in standard position
Its vertex is at the origin and its initial side lies on the positive x-axis
quadrantal angle
an angle in standard position whose terminal side lies on a coordinate axis
angle that lies in a quadrant
angle in standard position whose terminal side lies in that quadrant
measure of one degree
is assigned to an angle resulting from a rotation 1/360 of a complete revolution counterclockwise about the vertex
acute angle
has measure between 0° and 90°
right angle
has measure 90°
obtuse angle
has measure between 90° and 180°
straight angle
has measure 180°
central angle
an angle whose vertex is at the center of a circle
1 radian
the measure of a positive central angle that intercepts an arc of the circle of length equal to the radius of the circle
radian measure of a central angle
Θ= s/r radians
converting degrees to radians
180°= π radians
converting radians to degrees
π radians = 180°, 1 radian = (180/π), Θ radians = (180 Θ/π)°
complements/complementary angles
two positive angles with a sum of 90°
supplements/supplementary angles
two positive angles with a sum of 180°
arc length formula
s=rΘ
sector of a disk
a region bounded by the two sides of a central angle and the intercepted arc
area of a sector
A=1/2r•rΘ
linear speed
v=s/t
angular speed
ω=Θ/t
sine/sin Θ
opposite ÷ hypotenuse
cosine/cos Θ
adjacent ÷ hypotenuse
