Flashcards: Capacitance
How is capacitance calculated?
C = Q/V C = capacitance (F) coulombs per volt Q = Charge in the plates (C) V = potential difference across the plates (V)
Electric field of two charged plates
E (N/C orV/m) = rho/epsilum 0 rho = charge density = Charge of the plate/ Area of plate
Potential difference between two parallel plates
V = Ed =rho(D)/epsilum 0
Capacitors
devices that store charge and therefore energy
Capacitors in parallel
Ctot = C1 + C2.... V is the same in each branch and Q adds up
Capacitors in series
1/Ctot = 1/C1 + 1/C2 ... V adds up and Q is the same
