Group 1: Schema Theory and Bransford and Johnson Instructions: Your job will be to teach one concept (an aspect of One Learning Outcome), supported by one Study, to the class. Your job will also be to take notes on and understand the work of other classmates, complete a Key Study Sheet for each of the studies presented, and outline an SAQ related to each of the presentations. The following components will be graded and you will be asked to take summative assessments related to the information upon my return. As an Experimenter/Teacher, you will complete the following tasks: Read the relevant pages in Pearson/Crane and complete the guided reading sheet. This will be uploaded to Moodle. Make a PowerPoint which explains the key features of Schema Theory, the AMFC of your assigned study, and clear connection to the learning outcome (this will be presented to the class on your debrief day). On Wednesday, Jan 7th/Thursday, Jan 8th , during the second half of class, you will perform a simple experiment upon the class and collect data related to the experiment (materials will be provided, but you need to organize and perform the experiment in class in under 40 minutes). You need to be sure to collect data and be able to present your findings clearly. On Friday, Jan 9th/Monday, Jan 12th , during the first half of class, you will then present your results and teach the class about your overall concept or theory by constructing and presenting a PowerPoint Presentation which does the following: o You will introduce the concept and intricacies of Schema Theory as outlined in your assigned sections of the textbook. o You will conduct a content analysis of your findings and debrief the class as to your results. o You will consider the results and compare them to the original study, assessing and sharing any issues and suggestions for improvement. o You will explain the original study, its Aim, Method, Findings, Conclusion, and Evaluation to the class. o You will connect the study to a Learning Outcome or Theory and explain this connection and use to the class. As an audience/Student, during the other four presentations, you will complete the following tasks: Participate appropriately in relation to the other’s experiments. Complete a Key Study Sheet for each of the 5 Studies that are presented and upload these to Moodle (this means you will upload 5 Key Study Sheets to Moodle) Take notes and ask questions during the group presentations. Complete the SAQ Outline task sheet for each of the presentations (this will be submitted at the end of the final presentation. Read the relevant materials in the Pearson/Crane textbooks as needed if you are unsure of any information. Group 1: Schema Theory and Bransford and Johnson Your Learning Outcome is 3.5 – Evaluate Schema Theory with Reference to Research Studies. You will replicate the study of Bransford and Johnson (1972) You will need to read and focus on Pearson pgs 70 - 73 Your Replication Instructions are as follows: * See ‘Bransford and Johnson Washing machine’ document on Moodle You will need to develop the following on your own: A table for data collection A discussion (content analysis) of the results using the table provided.
